January – week 4

the sky

heavy

with blue~grey clouds

and the echoing song

of an unseen robin

~

January

strolling down the road

to meet me

in faded denim

patched with birdsong

~

relentless rain…

again and again

a little fly

tries to get through

the closed window

~

a raindrop

running in a vein

of its own making…

the clarity of my life

from the warm side of the glass

~

police sirens –

blissfully unaware

a wren

preens her wing

on a budded bough

~

frond-shadows

on willow pattern blue…

my thoughts brushstroked

from here to you,

Scots pines in winter sky

~

our first

great spotted woodpecker…

she reveals red flashes

beneath her wings

with each bounce of flight

~

sailor’s warning –

a gull tilts sunrise

on its wings…

my heart

all at sea

~
