January – week 4

the sky

with blue~grey clouds

and the echoing song

of an unseen robin

strolling down the road

to meet me

in faded denim

patched with birdsong

relentless rain…

again and again

a little fly

tries to get through

the closed window

a raindrop

running in a vein

of its own making…

the clarity of my life

from the warm side of the glass

police sirens –

blissfully unaware

a wren

preens her wing

on a budded bough

on willow pattern blue…

my thoughts brushstroked

from here to you,

Scots pines in winter sky

our first

great spotted woodpecker…

she reveals red flashes

beneath her wings

with each bounce of flight

sailor’s warning –

a gull tilts sunrise

on its wings…

my heart

all at sea
