June – week 3

the fox’s pounce —

butterflies rise

from the flowers

the poetry

of my everydays…

a butterfly

through the kitchen door

twittering goldfinches —

the vixen looks over

her shoulder

butterfly dust

on the heels

of summer

following the fox

along the beaten track

hushed voices…

a heron’s foot

stirs the water

a whisper

travels the length

of her spine…

a heron glides beyond

the reeds

crunch of gravel

meadow pipits parachute

back to earth

gathered up

in the silks of summer’s song…

the time

of dandelion clocks

in the golden grass

the lop-sided heart

of mating damselflies

a crimson darter

skims the mirror-lake…

your lips on mine

may never come

summer noon —

the russet colours

of the teal duck

so few breaths

between summer

and autumn

the teal turns

to preen its wing
