July – week 4

evening sun —

the utter satisfaction

of a basking seal

~

this ancient self

rolling my tongue around

words in dreams …

in the lull between tides

a poem birthed

~

roar of traffic —

the sun shimmers

in a seal’s eye

~

stooping now and then

to wash a pebble

in a tide pool

memory walks the shoreline

with her bucket of dreams

~

smell of the sea…

house martins return

to their cliffside nests

~

swirling notes

each phrase and gesture —

how soon it ends

on the wings of swifts and swallows

this summer song

~

“Skimming the Water” always a feast. I especially loved the above. I often watch animals at rest and wonder why we can’t know such content? Then this lovely poem comes along and I know another shares the sentiment. Thank you,
